Sweet Almond originated in the Middle East and South Asia, but has since been cultivated in several other regions, including southern Europe and warmer regions of the United States. The fruit of the tree is not actually a nut, but a drupe, meaning a fleshy outer skin with a hard shell inside that contains the seed.
